Each piece of fabric in elderly Aunt Sarah’s quilt bears witness to a life story that began with an abandoned child journeying west aboard an “orphan train.”
About the Book
When Sarah and Tom Biddle are sent west on an orphan train, no one wants to adopt a girl with a crippled brother to take care of. Sarah refuses to be separated from her brother, and when the train returning them to a New York orphanage stops over in Lincoln, Nebraska, Sarah and Tom run away. Taken in by Jesse King (the heroine of Walks the Fire) and August Hathaway, Sarah eventually makes a patchwork quilt, stitching “the tears of the past into a treasure for tomorrow.”
